4 Cape Cod Ponds to Visit this Summer

4 Cape Cod Ponds to Visit this Summer

Cape Cod may be known for its pristine beaches, but it’s also home to more than 1,000 ponds which cover nearly 11,000 acres. These ponds formed after a giant glacier that covered the area began to recede.

We picked our four favorite ponds on the Lower Cape, all within 20 or so minutes from Brewster by the Sea Inn!

Long Pond, Harwich/Brewster (11 mins. from the Inn)

Long Pond, Cape Cod’s largest pond, encompasses more than 700 acres and is the perfect place to swim, kayak, and motorboat. The pond has 6.5 miles of shoreline, giving visitors plenty of space to relax by the water.

Flax Pond, Brewster (14 mins. from the Inn)

Situated in the middle of Nickerson State Park in Brewster, Flax Pond is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The 51-acre pond is home to Jack’s Boat Rentals so you can enjoy a relaxing day on the water.

Crystal Lake, Orleans (19 mins. from the Inn)

When you arrive at Crystal Lake in Orleans, you’ll immediately understand where it gets its name from: The water really is crystal clear. It’s a great spot for fishing (provided you have a state permit), boating, or swimming. Even if it’s too chilly to go for a dip, Crystal Lake is the perfect place to sit and have a picnic.

Schoolhouse Pond, Chatham (21 mins. from the Inn)

Schoolhouse Pond in Chatham is a quiet, relaxing pond teeming with wildlife. There’s a small beach to sunbathe on with a roped-off swimming area which is perfect if you’re meeting families there. After a day in the sun, continue heading into Chatham for a bite to eat and a stroll down Main Street.

Be sure to add these beautiful Cape Cod ponds to your itinerary next time you’re on the Cape! Don’t have a Cape trip planned just yet? Take a look at Brewster by the Sea Inn’s rooms and book your stay with us today! We’d love to host you at our Cape Cod bed and breakfast.

A pandemic escape!

Amy and her staff are incredible. The attention to detail is hands down the best. Given all that is going on in this Covid-19 world, we felt safe and comfortable. Check-in was contactless. Our room was perfect. The breakfasts were wonderful and loved the cookies in the afternoon. The icing on the cake was Sweet Pea, Amy's dog, an absolute love! Amy, thank you, we'll be back!

Outstanding getaway!

This was our second time staying at this lovely inn. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the grounds are both spacious and tranquil. There is even a pool which is an excellent way to cool off after a day exploring the nearby trails or bike path. The breakfasts are creative and delicious and very filling. Amy, the owner and innkeeper is wonderful. She takes great care of the property and is so welcoming to her guests. She is very gracious in helping with advice on what to do in the area and making dinner reservations. We were among her first guests as Massachusetts began to "open up" during the Covid 19 crisis. She took great care to assure that everything was done to make her guests safe and comfortable. We look forward to returning.
