Winter dining on Cape Cod

by Donna Cain, Innkeeper and owner

One of our favorite topics of discussion with our guests is always about food! We love honest feedback about how to improve our breakfasts and take great pride in knowing all the great spots for our guests to dine for their evening meal while staying at one of our inns, Brewster by the Sea and Captain Freeman Inn.

We recently had a lovely couple stay with us that raved about their dining, and I thought it appropriate to blog about their choices, which are among our favorites. Both of our inns are in the central part of Cape Cod on the bay side and we have been so pleased to have many of our favorite places stay open in the winter. It’s a great time of the year to bundle up and walk the beaches by day, come back to the inn and to enjoy a cup of tea and a home baked goodie in front of the fire, take a nap and then enjoy a wonderful gourmet meal (without the summer crowds ) Now that’s a way to rejuvenate!

Onto their choices…

Evening 1- Brewster Fish House– It’s still our favorite and the food over the top fresh and delicious. This winter we have found the menu to be creative and different with some new vegetable pairings. I recently had their Cod and savored every bite!

Day 2 Lunch- Sir Crickets Fish and Chips- We have not dined here yet but have heard from several guests that this “hole in the wall” has wonderful lunch options such as lobster rolls, clam chower, fish and chips and also fresh boiled lobster from the fish market next door. This couple raved about their lobster roll and chowder, and we have added it to our “must visit” restaurants after the New Year. (I am always on the lookout for a simple but fresh lobster roll)

Evening 2- PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet. This restaurant has become so popular with lines forming early in the morning in the summer for their bakery. The evening meals are also a treat…very French with many seafood options. After listening to our guests review I wanted to immediately make our reservations. They had a wonderful meal and savored every bite. The staff was amazed at how such a petite couple could finish off both their dinner and dessert!

Bon appetite and Happy New Year to all of our friends and family!
